One thing any tourist or visitor to any destination would be, of course, the weather. Weather is of particular importance to a vacation in one of the resorts in Jamaica because, after all, who would like to swim and frolic in the sand when there is no sun? Jamaica is a tropical island in the Caribbean, and as much as the summers are hot and perfect for getting a tan or swimming endless laps on the beach, rainy months may also be a downer for all the fun a visitor has planned. Thus, it is important to match your intended reason for visiting Jamaica and the weather conditions on the dates when you actually are planning on visiting the country.
The thing about Jamaican weather is that it does not have seasons, and the two kinds of weather - sunny and rainy, can all happen in one day. That means in a single day, the sun may be scorching bright and can really hurt the skin, with the wind getting very stale, but hours later, rain will fall non-stop. That's tropical weather for you. The country's tropical climate gives it a hot but humid weather. In the interior of the island are mountainous regions and these areas have a lightly temperate weather. Thus, those who are scheduled for a boat ride in the mountain streams are advised to bring a thin jacket to keep them warm against the 10 degree winds.
Jamaica's annual average temperature is 27 to 30 degrees Celsius. Those who want to visit the island but not looking forward to getting burned should visit from January to February. The temperature starts to increase by March until it reaches a peak by July and August. The gap between the hottest and coldest months is as big as 10 degrees. April is the windiest month in the Jamaican weather calendar. On the other hand, May, June, September and October are the rainiest months. Also, take note that Sepetember to November are the months when hurricanes threaten (and usually stay true to their threat) to visit.
However, people who are not used to tropical weather should know that these rainy months can still be sunny. Rains usually last for 10 to 30 minutes, before the sun shines again, drying the streets, like nothing happened. Of course, there are days when the rain does not seem to stop, but these rains usually end after two days tops. Moreover, as stated earlier, this is not as typical as brief rain showers. Also, take note that not the entire island receives the same amount of rain. The region of the southwest, where Treasure Beach abd Mandeville are located, gets practically only a few days of rain annually, while Port Antonio and the other eastern resorts in Jamaica get the most rain.
Alas, the months of December to April see the most visitors going to the country. For those who want to have the island to themselves, visit from May to November. But then, these are the rainy months, so unless you like to swim in the rain and fear for an incoming hurricane, it's best to avoid these months.
