Jamaica, being one of the biggest islands in the Caribbean, offers almost every kind of resort to anyone looking for a grand vacation. While it used to be that Negril was pretty much a fishing town during most of its documented history, spanning more than 500 years, the late 1960s saw the start of an increase of the number of guests from all over the world. This area, named after the color of the imposing cliffs surrounding it, has been drawing a lot of visitors due to its more laid back feel, aside from the sight of its pristine Seven Mile Beach and readily available ganja, which in some places here, is still legal.

Another very popular area of the island is Ocho Rios, which, like Negril, was also once a sleepy area mostly inhabited by fisherman. Two of the country's most popular resorts are in this area: Fern Gully and Dunn's River Falls. Moreover, other sites like its canopy and Dolphin Cove have also lured tourists from all over.

When people think about resorts in Jamaica, they most probably have Montego Bay in their mind. This area has been, for quite a while the country's center of tourism. It outnumbers other areas in the island when it comes to top notch resorts and tourist destinations. Be it golf resorts, spa resorts, or beach getaways, this area has it all.

On the other hand, for visitors who are more into well-maintained architecture, Falmouth, which is the Trelawny Parish's capital, is the place to be. Located in the north-central portion of Jamaica, a good number of structures here display Georgian architecture. It also boasts of a number of new resorts and it is where the country's newest port dedicated to cruise ships is located.

In the history of the island, the first area that attracted visitors is Port Antonio. As far back as the 1890s, this port has welcomed international guests who arrived there by banana boat. What attracts tourists to this area is its unspoiled beauty, despite more than a century of welcoming visitors from other countries. Its downtown area and Fort George, which was ruined in 1729, gives visitors a leisurely lesson in local history.

Of course, any visitor to Jamaica should be familiar with its capital, Kingston. The city was actually just an overlooked area nearby the more popular Port Royal, which unfortunately, was also a spot for pirates and was ruined by a strong earthquake in 1692. Those who want to have easy access to the country's business district should stay in Kingston, as just a short drive from this large Caribbean city are nice resorts as well.
