Remanufactured printer cartridges cannot only save you money but are also beneficial for the environment. These are empty cartridges that have been cleaned and refilled with ink so that they can be reused and, if properly made, can be as good as or even better than original equipment manufacturer (OEM) cartridges. Using these cartridges should not damage your printer and federal law requires printer manufacturers to continue honoring the warranty even if you're not using OEM cartridges. They generally cost as much as 30|to 60|less than original cartridges and, in some cases, may even print more pages that OEM cartridges. It should be noted, however, that remanufactured cartridges might not be available for all brands of printer but in general, you can find recycled cartridges for the major printer models.
It should be noted, however, that remanufactured printer cartridges are not the best choice for all purposes. For example, a full-color printout using a remanufactured cartridge may not look as good as that made using an OEM. And the printed pages may not last as long. But for most uses, remanufactured cartridges will give you the results that you want at a cheaper price than original cartridges.
How are remanufactured printer cartridges made? The refiller first opens the empty cartridge and inspects it for damage. Broken parts are replaced and the cartridge is cleaned, refilled with ink and then reassembled. An empty cartridge can usually be refilled several times before it has to be discarded. However, some disreputable remanufacturers use methods that produce poor quality refilled cartridges. For example, instead of disassembling the cartridge, they may simply drill a hole in the case and refill it with ink. The refiller may also not re-clip the cartridge hopper tightly after refilling, causing the clips to fall up and jam the printer. You should look out for these problems by visually scrutinizing the cartridge before placing it into your printer to avoid problems. Check for signs of damage such as loose or broken flex tape and cracks in the casing. If you detect any signs of damage, do not use the cartridge and return it to the seller for replacement.
How do you choose a seller from which to buy remanufactured printer cartridges? Here are some things that you should look out for:
Do they have their contact information on their website? The site should provide e-mail addresses, toll-free landline and mobile phone numbers. The best retailers may even have live chat functionality so that the customers can have their complaints addressed at once, as well as a way for them to send messages directly through the site.
Do they have remanufactured cartridges for a variety of brands? At the very least, they should have cartridges for the most popular brands such as Dell, Canon and HP.
Do they have a good warranty? The warranty should allow you to return products to them, at their expense, if you are unsatisfied.
How much do they ask for shipping and how are their printer cartridges shipped?
