These days people are clearly becoming informed and vigilant about the world's water issues. They are also busy conceptualizing new ways of collecting water and recycling them whenever they can. For many years now, rainwater has been tapped for various household and gardening needs with more and more people accepting such method. This is never possible without a working water tank for storing water and for other needs.
Without a doubt, rainwater is among the most precious resources that man has throughout his time, and it is free of charge of course. It is really surprising how so many people unconsciously waste this valuable source of life. Anyone who is not developing the habit of collecting rainwater whenever he/she can is actually bound to waste thousands of gallons of this valuable resource for years to come. Having a water storage tank to collect water from above is vital; we get to save on our household budgets and do our share in taking care of the only world we know of.
In today's societies, people now force themselves to pay for this supposedly free resource simply because of their indiscriminate usage that helped trigger significant changes in the environment. Introducing an effective rainwater tank system helps in so many ways, we get free water and help preserve our precious natural resources. There are different rainwater tank types to begin with:
Metal or steel tanks - these are probably the preferred tank types. Made from several materials (particularly galvanized steel, polymer-coated steel and stainless steel), these tanks are installed above the ground with ease on concrete basis. They do not need much maintenance.
Polyethylene rainwater tanks - these are constructed using heavy-duty plastic moulded from steel. You can choose various shapes and sizes for different purposes, and they can be easily installed on the ground and above it. Green-coloured tanks are smart choices since these prevent algae formation in most cases. They are also less expensive when compared to other tank colors and designs, as they are well able to withstand damages from UV rays and climate changes.
Concrete rainwater tanks - known to be very resistant though hard to maintain and do repairs. Concrete tanks should be installed on the ground with the cement poured on site using steel moulds. These can also be positioned underground to prevent algae growth.
Fibreglass rainwater tanks - these are expensive tank types as they are proven to resist rust and corrosion in most cases. A fibreglass tank can be installed on the ground or above ground, and can survive severe changes in outdoor temperatures, thus requiring less maintenance.
The costs of water tank installation can be easily covered in the short term since the design concept allows you to save a good amount of money from your household expenses. Average homes need a tank capable of storing about 500 liters of water for a steady water supply. Collected rainwater will be stored in tanks positioned near the roof and readily accessible to households.
