In the technological arena of High Definition, there are basically two classifications for TVs. The first is High Definition TVs or HDTV, which are essentially TVs with built-in digital tuners. The second is the HD Monitor, which are TVs that utilize separate digital tuners. The latter include television sets that are less than twenty five inches in size, because current regulations now impose models than these to include digital tuners.
High Definition televisions and monitors currently have the best performance in the market, and should therefore be top priority when visiting online stores to shop for electronics. They show pictures and images at least five times better than analog TVs. This is the best that current technology has to offer today.
In conjunction with this, cable and satellite networks have also stepped up their offerings by providing digital content. On the side of the televisions, they have increasingly become ready for the digital streaming supplied by these digital providers by doing away with separate box cable adapters so common in American TV sets before. Now, TVs have built-in specialized circuits that fulfill the same function. Shop for electronics today, and buy HDTV, for many of them now have over the air, built-in HD tuners.
There are three means by which one may access signals with High Definition. These are through cable, satellite, or broadcast. A typical cable system will usually offer sports and movie channels in HD, including local channels. Cable also operates an exclusive network which provides different programs. Satellite is a competitor of the cable companies, and continually maintain their competitiveness by increasing their HD programs. Acquiring a satellite signal will require special satellite receivers. Satellite TV is a relatively new market player, and so far it has succeeded in penetrating the market and garnering significant market share. The third means is through the oldest route, which is the traditional on-the-air broadcast. Like cable, accessing HD programs through this means require a built-in tuner or a cable box.
Why shift to digital? Because HD digital TV has a much more significant picture and sound quality than analog TV. There is no conceivable reason why one would still tolerate low quality visual and audio content when a better one can be acquired for free or even at a lower or competitive price as traditional offerings.
Even in the details, digital is superior. For instance, the quality of analog TV reception is directly proportional to its signal quality. With digital signals, however, one gets exactly the same quality in picture and sound regardless of whether the signal is weak or strong.
In terms of the resolution of broadcasts, three formats have emerged. These are SD or Standard Definition, ED or Enhanced Definition and HD or High Definition. SD has a similar resolution to analog feed, although interference is non-existent. ED quality is comparable to current DVD picture quality standards. HD is approximately six times better in resolution than SD.
When one therefore visits the online TV stores once more to shop for electronics, be sure to upgrade to High Definition. After all, one owes it to himself to live in the 21st century.
