With no two scents being identical with each other, it isn't surprising that many people today find a hard time choosing perfumes for them. This is especially true for people who intend to purchase their scents online. However, what most people don't know is that there are basic characteristics that can categorize perfume into specific groups. Once an individual is aware of what those groups are, it would be easier for them to make a choice even if they haven't actually smelled the perfume. That being said, following are the labels used for different scents today that could help identify them.
Eau de Cologne
Eau de Cologne also goes by the name of Eau Fraiche and was made popular by Napoleon Bonaparte. This is why it isn't surprising that the Eau de Cologne is mostly reserved for men and has this heavier and thicker scent not present in women perfumes. They also last a long time especially since males are not the type to apply scents every once in a while.
Eau de Parfum
This is probably the most popular type today and usually contains about 7 to 15 percent concentration of perfume. Due to this level of dilution, Eau de Parfum is usually a subtle scent and is perfect for people allergic to strong smells. The good news is that the fragrance produced by this perfume lasts long, allowing individuals to get the scent they want without spending too much in the process.
Eau de Toilette
Some people are confused by this label due to the word "toilet". This type is actually used as body sprays and contains very little scents ranging from 1 to 6 percent. It's an incredibly light perfume and doesn't last as long as Eau de Parfum.
Perfume
Some people may start feeling confused right now, especially since they equate the word perfume with practically any liquid that provides an appealing smell. However, perfume is actually different from the previous three mentioned above as it is the purest form of scent being sold today. Bottle simply labeled "perfume" contains around 15 to 40 percent of scent oils, thereby providing them with a stronger and muskier feel. Due to the large quantity of scents, this type of product can last for as long as 6 hours, depending on the circumstances. Since it can be pretty strong, individuals who experience allergic reactions to strong smells often avoid this type of scent.
Of course, those aren't the only categories in which perfumes are divided in. They can also be grouped together depending on the theme of their scent. For example, some scents derive them aroma from flowers, others carry a "woody" theme, some boast of a spicy sent while others take pride for their "musky" blend. In cases like this, buyers need to determine what type appeals to them the most and narrow down their choices before buying.
Take note that there's still a possibility that the buyer will not like the scent even after considering all those mentioned above. This is why it is often recommended that buyers browse around malls and check out sample perfumes to narrow down what they like and eventually order it online.
