Gem stones are among the most highly sought-after gift items throughout the world. After all, nothing can compare to the shimmer of a gem. Aside from having a mesmerizing appearance though, gems also often have steep prices. Even semi-precious stones such as topaz, can cost as much as $60 for a small finely-cut piece. With this in mind, it is no longer surprising to realize that some individuals seek out the most expensive stones, so as to give the most extravagant and memorable gifts. Usually, people purchase diamonds, expecting that such stones already represent the epitome of luxury. In truth though, rarer gems exist.
Probably, if one searches for majorite prices on the web, only a few results would emerge. Majorite remains to be one of the rarest gem stones, and of course, one of the most costly. The brownish, and sometimes yellowish, stone have only been found in areas wherein meteorites have crashed, specifically in North America and Australia. Indeed, the gem's roots alone would definitely entice those aiming to purchase a rare gem, as majorite can only be formed if the right conditions have been met when a meteorite crashes into Earth. Testament to the gem's rarity, a crude low-mass fragment already costs $3000.
Much like Majorite, poudretteite has only been gathered from two locations so far, namely Canada and Myanmar. Unlike the previously discussed rare gem though, poudretteite has a less striking appearance. Commonly found in the form of a colorless diamond-like gem, poudretteite's only other variants are those that feature shades of purple and pink. It is also quite important to note, that despite the gem's similarity to quartz and diamond in terms of appearance, poudretteite is incredibly fragile. A knife should be more than sufficient to scratch its surface. Nonetheless, poudretteite is among the most expensive gem stones, as a mere carat often exceeds $5000.
Those truly wealthy would expectedly search for the rarest of the rare. While there is no accurate way to determine the rarest gem at present, as a myriad of factors determine the availability of gem stones, jadeite surpasses most gems in terms of price and rarity. It should be emphasized though, that not just any Jadeite qualifies as an extremely rare find. Crude pieces of jadeite, such as those that have internal fractures and dark hues, are inexpensive and can even be bought from eBay. On the other hand, lightly colored and perfectly formed jadeites cost more than a million dollars per carat.
No matter how rare diamonds are, it cannot be denied that some gem stones are much harder to find. Of course, the rarer a gem stone is, the greater its price. Those who really have the money to spend on gems, whether to give the precious stones as a gift or to simply complete a collection, should never miss the chance to purchase majorite, poudretteite, or jadeite. For most people though, the thought of being able to own such gems would only remain as an unfulfilled dream. After all, the rarest gems are only for the elite.
