There are many reasons that you may need to replace your kitchen flooring. It may be that it is old and run down, or maybe you are looking to perfect your kitchen. Whatever the reason you are interested in replacing the kitchen flooring in your home, there are many things to consider first. Out of all of the different types of materials you can use for your home, you need to determine which is most appropriate for your family. If you have a large family with children and there is a lot of traffic, you will want to consider something very durable that will last a long time. However, if you are single and live in the house alone, the need for durability may not be as strong. The following will explain the different types of kitchen flooring that you can choose from in order to help you make a decision.
The first type of flooring and likely the most common is vinyl. Vinyl can be found in sheets as well as tiles, and is very easy to install. Many people prefer vinyl because even though it is inexpensive, it is also very durable. One problem to consider with vinyl tiles are that they can be easily water damaged, which in return can cause stains. Because of this, it is very important if you spill something on a vinyl tile floor to clean it up immediately. Vinyl comes in many colors and designs; there is likely something to match everyone's kitchen.
For a wood look without the cost of a wood floor, laminate is suggested. Laminate kitchen flooring is a wonderful substitute for those who do not have the funds for a wood floor. In addition, it is cheap and simple to install. Laminate flooring will not fade, and is even much more resistant to staining that actual wood. Keep in mind though, when a laminate floor becomes stained, you have to replace the entire floor, not just one area or plank.
The next type of floor to consider is tile. Tile is beautiful, and can add a stunning, elegant look to any room. Tile can be found in porcelain, quarry, or ceramic, depending on your preference. Tile is fun to work with because you can create your own designs. There are many different sizes of tile which make this project even more exciting. Furthermore, if one of the tiles happens to crack or break, they are very easy to replace. If you purchase glazed tile, you will be free from stains as well.
Wood is another luxurious type of kitchen flooring. You can commonly find wood flooring in oak, pine, or maple. There are also many designs of wood that you can buy such as planks, tiles, or strips. Wood floors are absolutely stunning, but are not very resistant to stains. Also, a wood floor does not have much traction and can cause easy slips and falls when near the stove. Furthermore, wood is much more expensive than some of the alternatives, and becomes damaged much easier than other types of flooring.
Linoleum is a perfect choice for everyday kitchen flooring. There are beautiful new styles and designs constantly being made, as well as many beautiful colors. This type of flooring is nice because it is very easy to keep clean or clean up when a mess has been made. Also, it does not damage easily and take a lot of traffic rather well. Linoleum is comparable to vinyl; however, it is more expensive.
The final type of flooring that you may choose for your kitchen is carpet. Carpet is not the ideal choice, although many prefer it for the softness; especially if you are commonly in the kitchen cooking. It is much easier to stand on cushioned carpet than hard tile. However, carpet flooring is often very hard to keep clean, and stains very easily. Furthermore, carpet is the perfect breeding ground for bacteria that may have gotten spilled on it from raw food, so it is not a brilliant idea if you have little ones who would be crawling around on it. If you decide on carpet for you kitchen, please be aware of the problems that accompany it.
No matter what kitchen flooring you choose, they all have their advantages and disadvantages. Decide which type you think will work best for your family before shopping. Obviously if you have a large family with a lot of traffic, you want to purchase something that is very durable and will not stain easily. Your new flooring will change the entire appearance of your kitchen.
