Many people unfortunately have rather small kitchens in their home. If you are one of these unlucky people, maybe you should consider remodeling your small kitchen. This sounds like a lot of work; however, there are many things that you can do that are simple as well as affordable in order to free up extra space in your kitchen. In fact, changing just a few things can cause you to have a lot more room and space in your kitchen.
First, consider the sizes of the different items that are on your kitchen countertops. Look at your sugar and flour containers. Do you really need that extra-large container that will hold two bags of flour? Consider purchasing smaller containers that will take up far less room on your countertops. Also, do you have anything that is not needed on the countertops such as cookie jars or unused candy jars? If so, it is time to get rid of unused items.
After the countertops are cleaned and unused items are removed, it is time to get into more extensive work. Look around your room; is there a wall that could be torn down to create additional space? If so, the removal of this wall could open things up and create a lot of much needed space for your tiny kitchen. If you are not familiar with removing walls, or if the wall is one that is load bearing, then it is a good idea to call a contractor to help you. You sure do not want to make matters worse or cause a bunch of expensive problems.
Another thing that you can do to create the illusion of space in your kitchen is to install mirrored tiles behind the stove and sink. By doing this, an illusion is created which makes your little kitchen appear much bigger. You can also add these mirrored tiles along one of the walls in the kitchen as well as a way to reflect light and make your kitchen appear brighter. Additionally, this could make a plain kitchen appear elegant and stylish.
The next thing that you can do as a way of remodeling kitchens that are small is to replace some of the appliances. If you have a dishwasher that stands freely in your kitchen, you may consider purchasing a built in dishwasher instead. The same goes for your stove. Today, many stoves can be found that are built right into your countertops. Removal of your stove could open up space and create additional room for a kitchen table, or just extra space. However, it is recommended that you use bar stools in a small kitchen rather than a table and chairs set.
The final thing that you can do when remodeling kitchens, is to paint the walls. By painting the walls a light color such as white or beige, you will create the appearance of a larger kitchen. Furthermore, paint is a way to freshen up your kitchen and change the appearance drastically. By following these tips, you no longer need to suffer with a small kitchen. Remodeling kitchens is a brilliant way to open up space and have a more productive kitchen.
