-Texture is the manner in which the fibers are placed into the carpet. They could be cut, looped, or even twisted. The texture is the determining factor in the look and feel of the carpet and it also makes a big difference in the durability of the material.

-Carpet Weight is measured in ounces and counted by square yard. The total weight includes the carpet backing and the latex while the face weight is just the fibers of the carpet. When the face weight is high, you are looking at a good quality carpet.

As you compare the various carpet prices, make sure you look at similar materials. Compare nylon weights to nylon weights and not polyester to nylon. There are many different types of fibers and they all have different characteristics and qualities. Familiarize yourself with wool, polyester, nylon, olefin, and acrylic carpets and get an idea of which type you like the best.

Many carpets are treated with stain-resistant finishes as well. If you have children or pets in your homes, these treatments are a good idea. Ask the store representative which carpets already have the treatment and which carpets offer the treatment as a supplement to the package.

As you narrow down your carpet prices, keep in mind that padding is almost as important as the carpet itself. The padding does not show but the cushiony layer adds life and quality to the carpet. The better padding you get, the longer your carpet is likely to last. Keep the costs of the various pads in mind as you begin analyzing carpet prices.
