Soapstone may be a non-traditional form of kitchen counters but it is becoming popular in the kitchen for many reasons. Soapstone is stain resistant and comes in a deep rich color that many people find very appealing. It is water resistant and easy to clean. The material was first used for sinks but is now becoming popular for kitchen counters as well. However, there are some drawbacks to soapstone, one being that it requires regular maintenance and mineral oil must be applied to the stone regularly to keep it looking beautiful. If not taken care of the stone may crack and significantly darken as time passes.
