If you have an unfinished basement in your home, you may have a whole new space to create. Many basements are wasted by keeping them unfinished and unable to be used for anything but storage. By remodeling your basement using some of these basement ideas, you could add a whole new level of space and comfort to your home. The opportunities are endless!
A basement can be transformed into any type of room. Below are just a few unique basement ideas that can add some spice to your home. You can make renovations to create:
- A library
- An Exercise Area
- A Movie Room
- A Wine Cellar
Library
Many basements are insulated areas that are naturally quite. This could be the ideal spot for a library and reading room. Hiding away downstairs in the basement may be a great hideaway so you can actually finish your favorite books. If you are needed upstairs, someone can still call down for you if necessary!
Some basements contain windows that give natural lighting and sun exposure. Make sure to place your shelving for your books in areas that won't cause sun damage and fading. In many instances there is not enough natural lighting (if any), so take ceiling fixtures and lighting types into consideration for you renovation plans.
Exercise Area
Due to busy schedules, many of us simply do not have time to go to the gym for a workout. Staying in shape and healthy are important to most of us, but squeezing in gym time is tough and sometime expensive. Creating a home exercise area in your basement is a great way to avoid the drive and fees of going to the nearest recreational center or gym.
Having an exercise ball and treadmill in your basement workout can be a good start. These two items will give you a sufficient workout as well as fit into cramped areas. This is also a great solution if you didn't plan on using all of your basement area for strictly exercise equipment.
Movie Room
Having a movie room in your basement would be a great way to entertain guests all while giving you the movie theater feel without leaving your home. There is a lot of wiring and planning required for this type of area, so be sure to do your research first!
Wine Cellar
Basements are generally cool and dry- creating the perfect atmosphere for a wine cellar. If you are a wine connoisseur- this would be a great place to discretely store your collection of bottles so they don't take up space in your main living area.
Before creating your new modern living area, you may need to look into the requirements of waterproofing and insulating a basement first. Your basement may have small leaks or cracks in the walls- and should be addressed before any other renovations can occur. The last thing you want is to complete your new room to later have a water leak that ruins the carpet!
There are loads of basement ideas that can create a new and useful space for you and your loved one!
