Where people get confused, is the actual start date for Medicare; since not everyone is born on the first of the month.
Let's say your birthday is on the 15th of August, and you enrolled in Medicare part B three months prior. This means your start date would be August 1st. If your birthday was on August 1st, and you enrolled in Medicare part B three months prior, your start date is July 1st.
Many seniors get confused, and end-up calling Medicare when it comes to their start date, so don't panic if you have a problem too.

In addition, if you don't have health care with your current employer, you're not eligible for any type of special enrollment benefits.
You may delay enrolling in Medicare part B until your COBRA coverage ends (which is often eighteen months), but be careful, the federal government will likely charge a penalty after eight months.
For those on TRICARE, which is coverage for active duty military and retirees, you must have Medicare part B to keep your TRICARE coverage throughout retirement. This is one of the reasons why this country has a huge debt (nothing is centralized).
