Somewhere between the late 19th century to the middle of the 20th century, travelling would mean luxury. Right up there with expensive cars and limited edition jewelry pieces. Travelling was placed a priority of the 'high society' at that time, with people believing that to travel was to gain a whole array of knowledge, experiences, and memories.
To travel was to discover the world with all the senses, in order to see firsthand, the cultures of other people which were only available in stories of people who had traveled, or from literature pieces who magnified the need to travel.
For many, travelling was a status symbol. If one would say that he or she has made a journey outside the country would mean that he or she was a member of the higher society because of the money he or she could spare in order to travel. At the very least of defining travelling in the past, it was an unnecessary luxury, yet very much significant.
Today travelling has became a part of life for even the 'ordinary' people. The growth of the passenger transport industry, allowed for high prices of travel costs to tumble and give way for people of all budgets to see other countries.
The term, 'budget travel' has emerged in the past five to seven years. To travel in budget means arriving at the same destination and see the same things as those by the normal travel, minus the costs and minus the excess. Budget travel first originated in the terms of transportation companies, particularly the airline industry, pertaining to their promotion of riding their airplane minus the entertainment and even food. At least the budget traveller would still arrive at their destination.
The budget travel has evolved into an overall concept of travelling. It allows for travelling even with people who are budget conscious. The concept has moved beyond transportation into hotel accommodation, meals, places to visit, events to see, and even gifts to bring home. Knowing the tips for the budget traveller will help you cut down on travel costs dramatically, yet arrive at your destination and see the same things as those of the more luxurious.
Plan your travel ahead. Planning for your next travel is the secret to cutting costs. Knowing where and how long will be your travel itinerary will give you a gauge into the amount of money you need to save and eventually spend. Spur of the moment travels are experientially the most expensive.
First time travellers may like to choose a place or country that is close to home. If you are a first time traveler, on a budget at that, you may want to choose a city or province (locally) or a certain country (internationally) for the first trip. This will enable you to have a feel of travelling with minor adjustments that may have an impact on your time and budget constraints.
If possible, travel during off-peak. Low season vary from place to place. Contrary to popular belief, a place on its low season is not so bad, rather, a booming strategy of travellers who want to enjoy the place less thousands of crazy tourists. You will get to enjoy the place and take perfect pictures due to the missing crowds. In addition, Lean months boasts of the promotions on other aspects of travelling such as cheaper hotel accommodations and even meals!
Look for four star hotels. If you insists on staying in hotels. These hotels are almost a five star but not quite. They have amenities trying to be a five star hotel but with a mellowed down service and are usually not in the center of the tourist districts. They are more than a three star hotel which amenities and service is usually a crap. The four star hotel is the best choice in that they are more open to having promotions than the five star ones. They are also way better than those three stars which are usually ill rated by travellers.
Hotels are not the only place to sleep in. Always remember that there are loads of sleeping places to lay your head. There are backpacker hostels, inns, and even motels to offer a good night sleep without slashing your wallets.
Go off the beaten track, as most of the must see places to visit are very overrated and they ask for an incredibly high price. It is the premium that is being bought by the tourist in order to see the front page picture of that tourist spot in major websites and even magazines. Most of the times, however, these places are very much overrated. Research on these places that may be a less famous place to visit, yet, would give you more memories minus the costs.
These are some of the tips for the budget traveller. It would not hurt to be a budget traveller because more than half of those who travel are travelling bearing budget as their number one priority. This day and age are more travel savvy and don't see travel as a luxury.
