Painful Sex After Cesarean Birth

Painful Sex After C-section Birth

Painful sex following a c-section surgery isn't unusual, so don't press the panic button this is happening to you. This can be puzzling for nearly all mothers who believe that as the infant didn't pop out via the vagina that it will not be affected

There are a number of explanations why sex might be painful following a cesarean section, some of them applicable for any kind of delivery. Primary among them are hormones, especially if still breastfeeding. The postpartum hormones can leave the vagina dry A consequence of all the hormones is a dried up vagina|the vagina is dried up, so heaps of lubrication necessary. You might see it as the body stating, hey one baby at a time!

Estrogen cream, as well as the lubrication will aid this dryness which you can get a prescription from your obstetrician. You can also ask the physician concerning prescription opportunities for the dryness problem.

For cesarean surgery moms another important cause for pain following a c-section surgery is for the reason that the muscle tissues and ligaments were being pulled and stretched for the duration of your cesarean section delivery to let the surgeon take out your little one. Not to mention that needless to say everything is connected down there and your uterus is attached to your cervix which is attached to your vaginal canal. This might mean that movement in the vagina can 'heave' on the uterus

This lengthening and pulling can mean you will continue to feel sore in your lower vaginal area until fully healed. Because of this, sexual activity can be uncomfortable before your body is robust once more. Your body has been altering for the nine months leading up to giving birth and many say it will take 9 months until it fully returns to it's pre pregnancy condition.

Positioning whilst making love could be another issue. A lot of mothers find being on top and getting additional control of the speed and deepness of penetration is enormously advantageous. Clearly the missionary posture is prohibited for a number of months as a result of the cesarean scar.

So far the difficulties we have covered on the topic of painful sex following a cesarean have been normal and will in the end go. There can however be reasons for the pain that call for treatment of one sort or another. Easiest of them is some kind of an infection, which after diagnosis is simple to care for.

More complicated to both make a diagnosis and take care of are adhesions. Adhesions are stringy bands that take shape between body tissue and organs. They are in essence a type of internal scar tissue and can cause significant problems. After a c-section delivery adhesions can arise on the uterus and will tighten and pull in the abdomen. If after a few months after your c-section delivery love making is still painful and it isn't a clear lubrication issue (notably if no longer breastfeeding) then it is recommended to see your health practitioner, and if you aren't ok with what they tell you, get a different opinion.

So the main take away from all this is painful sex after a c-section is normal so take it slow. The remedy is go leisurely and easy including as all the foreplay as you have time and energy for. Employ lubrication and plenty of it. And above all, communicate with your partner. While the soreness will be difficult in the short term, it doesn't mean you can't expand the intimacy with your partner. The best thing to do is listen to your body, only do things that feel comfortable, let him know these things, and don't rush things.

As a closing point, remember that every mom's body is different. Each mom heals on her own schedule and be prepared for love making again when it is ok for her. You are the only one who will realize what time that is for you.
