We are all aware of the fact that genuine natural diamonds are very expensive. However, these days, there is a growing interest on an alternative to these beautiful yet very expensive jewels. Cultured yellow diamonds for example, have been very popular among a lot of diamond collectors and buyers these days. And there is a good reason for this growing popularity. First of all, cultured diamonds are more affordable than those that were formed naturally. However, you should understand that just because it costs less, that cultured diamonds are less beautiful and less valuable, because they are simply not. The biggest reason for their affordability is the fact that it took less time and effort to create them.
The process that cultured diamonds go through to form is actually quite simple. Fancy color diamonds are created inside a lab and actually start their journey as "seeds", which are in fact, tiny diamonds. This tiny diamond seed is placed inside a small capsule with graphite inside it. The idea is to melt the graphite at very hot temperatures, causing it to surround or form around the diamond seed. The capsule is then put inside a "growth" chamber that is specifically designed to mimic the amount of pressure a natural diamond undergoes. The capsule is then surrounded by six metal alloys called anvils and further covered with eight thick wedges made of steel to make sure that the right amount of pressure is given to the forming diamond inside the capsule. After four days, the growth chambers are opened and a new sparkly diamond is harvested. The diamond is then processed and then set and delivered directly to the stores and sold at much affordable prices.
So as you can see, mother nature has some very serious competition. When talking about about yellow diamonds, one has to know that it takes at the very least, a million years to form and would take diamond companies several months and hundreds of hours in labor to mine and millions of dollars to process and transport to the stores. This is why natural diamonds are very expensive. Not to mention the fact there is still the issue that "blood diamonds" are being smuggled into the country; diamonds harvested from slave and child labor; an issue that affected and shook the diamond industry. When you buy cultured, synthetic, faux, laboratory - whatever you want to call them - diamonds, you can be sure you are spending your money on a jewelry piece you can wear with a clear conscience, and without spending a lot of money.
