Today we are blessed with only the need to flip a switch to achieve temperate comfort within our own homes. Central heating works by pulling heat from one central location, hence the name, such as a furnace or boiler room, and spreading this warm air throughout a house or building through a system of ducts and vents. The great thing about the central heating duct system is that a central air conditioning can use the same ducts to circulate cool air since there will never be a time when a person must have the heater and the air conditioner running at the same time. In a situation where heat and air and conditioning are present in a home, the system may be referred to as a HVAC, which stands for heating, ventilation and air conditioning. Large HVAC systems can also be found in most retail building, offices and restaurants.

There are different ways to go about heating or cooling the air to be circulated throughout a house. Methods for a heating system include gas or electric which power a furnace or a boiler. Some systems combine different heating elements and methods to create the most efficient system possible. For example, some houses use the heat generated from hot water flowing through pipes around the house to showers, dishwashers and more to help heat the house along with central heating for maximum use of energy.

Central air conditioning does not require a furnace or boiler room because the system will often pull warm air from a room, circulate this air through its refrigeration system cooling its temperature and then redistribute the air through the duct system. Central air conditioning is considerably more expensive than a stand-alone air conditioning machine which just cools one room but has the benefits of being much quieter because the mechanical operations and fans are kept outside. Also, central air conditioning does not require a bulky machine to be kept on the floor of the room, but is rather mounted up and out of the way.

The benefits for central heating and air conditioning far outweigh the costs for most people, especially those living in a climate that experiences all the seasons and changing temperature. Central heating helps people to stay warm and avoid sicknesses caused by wet and cold while air conditioning is known to comfort people suffering from allergies as well as keeping everyone cool and comfortable. Central heating and air conditioning is a great addition to a house.
