So you have decided to renovate or build a new home? Or maybe you are working on a project that has been put off for a few years. Whatever the case, whether you're installing carpet or hardwood flooring, floor installation can be a difficult chore if one is not prepared. One thing is for sure, you should consider the cost of hardwood floor installation and the carpet installation prices before doing anything else, and this includes whether or not to hire a professional floor installer or to do it yourself.
Next, you may be thinking about carpet, hardwood flooring, or both. If you want the look of wood in your home, and/or you want to sand and finish the wood yourself, you can do this. Carpets are nice on the feet, pets love them, and they are easy to clean up, but sometimes, stains can make things challenging. You don't want to pay the steep carpet installation prices only to have your new floor stained within weeks. Thankfully, modern technology has introduced stain removers and steam cleaners to help with this problem.
New flooring adds character and value to your home. Maybe you have some flooring that just does not look or feel right to you anymore; flooring gives you a feel of a fresh start and can be very satisfying. If you decide to take on the floor installation yourself rather than paying carpet installation prices, it is a good idea to have someone that knows how to do it, teach you and work with you; otherwise, there are hundreds of books and videos available online and in retail stores. If you are brave and want the challenge, installing a carpet may be more challenging then installing a hardwood floor, but then again, that may depend on who you talk to.
If you are still contemplating on carpet or hardwood flooring, here are some important things to consider: Your location is relevant to whether there is water and mud around, or do you have outside pets that come in the house? I like carpet in areas where they are not exposed to high traffic and wood floors in my kitchen or dining room, for you, it may be different. I will stress this again; go with what feels right to you. Hardwood floors seem to last longer than carpet, but then again, there are exceptions. With carpet, you have to watch out for spilling anything all the time; with wood, you can wipe the stains off. When your hardwood floor is looking like it is old and worn out, then you get out the sandpaper and finish, for a whole new look.
Finally, I want to encourage everyone to think about your decision and try to take the time to talk about options with loved ones, friends, and professionals. It does not pay to rush into anything. The high cost associated with carpet installation prices can be a good investment, but be sure you are making the right decision before you sign any contracts or place an order.
