If you want to eliminate a wart, rest assured, there are many viable methods for you to consider. You'll notice that dermatologists perform some of these methods, while others can be safely performed at home without medical supervision.
You should know that you don't necessarily need to go to a dermatologist about warts, meaning you can treat them yourself This is because warts, unlike other skin growths, rarely pose any critical threat to your health.
However, I should point out that sometimes, home removal methods don't work. This typically is the case for abnormally sized warts or for large numbers of warts.
So the question is what happens next if this happens? Well, it means it's likely time to make an appointment with your dermatologist. In fact, from here on out, I'm going to assume that you've tried some of the popular at home methods, but maybe they didn't work for you.
So let's exam the most typical medical procedures used for wart removal.
Just to make you aware, making the decision about which of these treatments is right for you is not something you have to do alone. Your dermatologist will undoubtedly help you with this.
One common procedure is called cryotherapy. As the name suggests, it means freezing the wart tissue. This works due to the fact that the freezing compound actually kills the skin cells, so the wart just sloughs off on its own. This procedure is not very painful, despite what you may have heard. Typically, there's very little scarring afterwards.
Laser surgery is second effective method. The laser energy reaches deep within the skin and destroys the blood vessels supplying the wart. Despite what you might expect, laser surgery doesn't cause a lot of pain. Scarring typically isn't much of a concern.
Moving on, there's electro-therapy. This procedure uses electric currents to burn the wart. The procedure starts by removing the top levels of the wart with an electric instrument. And depending on the size of the wart, your doctor may have to surgically remove what remains with a scalpel. Unlike some of the other treatments already mentioned, you can expect to receive some form of anesthesia to help you cope with any pain. As you probably know, surgery usually results in a mark of some type. And unfortunately, this procedure is no different.
Lastly, your physician may decide to treat your warts with a prescription . If your physician does prescribe medication, it's likely to contain salicylic acid. You may know of this ingredient if you've ever used the wart treatment products at your neighborhood pharmacy. But that variation isn't as strong as the kind your doctor uses. Without a doubt, this is the easiest way to treat wart(s). Wart medicines tend to work in most cases and they produce almost no serious ill effects. One drawback is the amount of time it takes to remove the wart, which can be several weeks.
