Will make your chainsaw work more efficiently and reliably
You decided to invest in a new Craftsman chainsaw, but after a while your saw stopped working as advertised by the salesperson who sold it to you. Your modern Craftsman chainsaw is one of the best chainsaws in the world, but like all machines it needs regular maintenance and adjustment to work properly. Once you learn how to properly adjust your Craftsman chainsaw parts, you'll be able to keep it working as advertised, throughout its life span.
Your Craftsman chainsaw is a reliable and efficient tool for taking down trees or dangerous limbs around the yard. It's also useful for cutting up firewood and making cutting wood of any kind easier to accomplish. Your Craftsman chainsaw parts are also famous for needing constant adjustments to keep them working as designed. Below we take you through the steps on how to adjust your Craftsman chain saw parts. Once you know how to handle this job, you'll be so happy with the way your saw works, you'll be looking for any reason to start her up.
Before you start, there are a few indispensable tools you'll need to adjust your Craftsman chain saw parts. You'll need a socket set, ratcheting wrench and a Phillips screwdriver to get the job done.
Step one: Take your Craftsman chainsaw and place it on a table stable enough to allow you to work on the saw. Use the ratcheting wrench and the right socket to loosen the retaining nuts on the chain bar. It isn't required at this point to remove the nuts, just loosen them so the bar hangs loose.
Step 2: Grab the tip of the chain bar and pull it all the way up. Now, turn the adjustment screw clockwise with the Phillips screw driver to tighten the chain. At this point, you need the saw chain to be tight against the bar, but the chain should still be able to move easily. It will take practice to get use to understanding exactly how much to tighten your Craftsman chain saw parts.
Step 3: You need to make sure when re-tightening the chain bar retaining nuts, to making sure to hold the end of the bar up. You can test the chain tension, by pulling it toward the engine of your Craftsman chainsaw. The chainsaw chain should still move pretty easily, or you probably needs to loosen the retaining nuts a little, and then tighten them again. Keep repeating this process, until you have the chainsaw chain to the correct tension.
Step 4: Once you have the chain to the correct tension. Add some bar and chain oil to the moving metal parts of your Craftsman chain saw parts. Your Craftsman chainsaw should be all adjusted and ready to go to work.

Chainsaws are an indispensable tool for so many different projects, from felling trees and rough-cutting firewood to trimming and pruning fruit trees. Chainsaws are famous for requiring adjustments, maintenance, and attention. Needing to make an adjustment can happen suddenly, right in the middle of making a cut, and if you are away from civilization, it would be inconvenient to stop what you are doing to take your chainsaw to a repair shop. Knowing how to make the adjustments yourself saves you time, money, and add peace of mind.

- 1
Sit the saw on a hard, stable surface. Loosen the chain bar retaining nuts with a ratcheting wrench and an appropriately-sized socket. Removing the nuts from the bar retaining bolts is unnecessary; simply loosen the nuts so the bar will hang down.
2
Hold the tip of the chain bar up all of the way and turn the adjustment screw to the right (clockwise) with a screwdriver to tighten the chain. The chain should fit snugly against the bar, but it should not be so tight that the chain cannot move freely.
3
Re-tighten the bar retaining nuts while still holding the end of the bar up. Be sure the chain moves freely by pulling the chain along the bar away from the engine housing with a gloved hand. If the chain does not move freely, loosen the retaining nuts, loosen the chain a little, and re-tighten the retaining nuts. Retest the chain for free movement.
4
Add a few drops of bar and chain oil to the sprocket located at the nose end of the bar.
