Amana dryers are a very popular brand of dryers on the market. Just like any other dryer, the Amana dryer may need to have parts cleaned, tested, and replaced from time to time. Keeping your dryer maintained is very important in protecting its parts. One common reason for dryer problems stems from a clogged vent. The dryer must expel the heat and moisture that is created inside the dryer when in operation. Gas dryers also expel carbon dioxide, making the importance of maintaining the vent system even more important. This heat and gas is expelled through a hose that is connected to a vent that leads outside the home. If this vent system is compromised, it can wreak havoc on Amana dryer parts.
One way that a clogged vent system can affect your Amana dryer is by affecting the thermal fuses. If the vent is clogged, it can cause the thermal fuse to trip, or shut off. The thermal fuse is in place to prevent the dryer from overheating and causing major damage. It operates on the same principle as an electrical fuse, except that it is reacting to excessive heat instead of excessive voltage. If your dryer is not heating, the first thing you should do is check the vent system. Turn the dryer on in the no-heat or fluff cycle and then go outside to the vent. If there is a strong current of air coming through the vent, then the vent is not clogged and the problem may be the thermal fuse. Thermal fuses must be replaced when they are tripped and your product manual should explain how to accomplish this.
Clogged vents can also damage the tumbler inside the dryer. The tumbler is the dryer part that holds the items being dried and where the heating element is located. If the vent is clogged, lint can accumulate around the tumbler and cause it to catch fire or it will wear the dryer out and you will have to replace the dryer. The vent can also become clogged if there is a sag in the dryer hose. Not only will lint collect in the hose, but water will collect there, also. The water will corrode a metal pipe and rot a plastic one. Water will also create a nastier clog when it combines with the lint that is already trapped inside the hose, making the cleaning process more difficult.
To keep your Amana dryer parts in good condition, it is wise to create and maintain a regular cleaning schedule of your dryer's vent system. You should clean out the lint trap and the well it sits in after each use. To clean out the hose connecting the dryer to the vent and the ductwork leading to the outside, you can use a vacuum or a blower once or twice a year. Keep the area around the Amana dryer free of lint and dirt. Your Amana dryer and its parts will last longer and provide you with top performance.
