Getting an enormous freezer can make a huge difference in your life. The huge freezer suddenly means that you can stock up on your food. You are free to do things like make lots of extra lasagna, freeze U-Pick fruit, and even purchase a steer at the county fair. Owning a giant freezer does come with some responsibilities.
Most people choose to set up their freezer in their garage. The reason for this is because the freezer is easier to access, and it doesn't usually require the carrying of the freezer up and down stairs and through narrow doors. Even if you don't have kids of your own, you still need to make sure that kids can't get into the freezer. You must have your freezer fitted with a child safe lock, and the lock has to be used each time you shut the freezer door.
The large freezer will keep your food cold for a long time. Even when there is a power outage, most of the food will stay find because it takes it so long for the freezer to unthaw. The more food there is in the freezer, the longer it will stay cold. The problem that some people run into is that they tend to forget to check the freezer thermostat. Checking the freezer thermostat every couple of days is the best way to make sure that the freezer is always working properly. When you check the thermostat you will know that you need to call the repair person long before the food inside the freezer spoils.
Keep a really close eye on the cord and plug. There is nothing worse than grabbing ahold of your freezer handle and getting an electrical shock. Not only is the shock painful, but since it is a steady flow of electricity it will trigger your grab reflex, causing your hand to clamp down on the handle, making it impossible for you to get free. In some cases the shock can be so severe that people have died. The most frequent reason for the cord to get damaged is rodents. At the slightest sign of damage, you need to have to the plug replaced. Another thing that you have to watch out for is that the plug and cord never get wet.
Over time you are going to notice that there is a thick layer of frost building up on the inside of your freezer. The more frost there is, the less space you have inside the freezer for food. Every couple of months you are going to have to completely empty the freezer for several hours and let it thaw out. When the frost has melted, you need to wipe the interior of the freezer with a clean dry towel. This is a really good time to use a cleaner and scrub the mildew from your freezer seals. Doing this one or two times a year will not only ensure that your freezer lasts for a really long time, but will also keep it running at peak efficiency and preventing it from being a drain on your electricity bills.
