Previous to vacuuming you should use a broom and sweep your carpet. This will do two things. The first is that it will help pull some of the dirt from the carpet fibers. The second thing the sweeping does is make sure there aren't any clumps of dirt or large objects that could ruin your vacuum.

The more pets that you have, the more often you are going to have to vacuum. Not only are your pets grinding dust into the carpet fabrics, they are also shedding. Since you can't forbid your pets from walking on the carpet, you should at least block them from some of the rooms. Keeping your pets out of things like guest rooms and closets will significantly reduce the amount of time you spend vacuuming every single day.

One of the things that you will notice from time to time is that your vacuum becomes harder to push. When you find that you have to use more muscle just to push your vacuum across your carpet, it usually means that it is time to replace the vacuum belt. The more stretched and worn the belt gets, the harder you have to work to push the vacuum across the floor.

Don't assume that you can just purchase any type of belt for your vacuum. Every different type of vacuum uses a different kind of belt; the only way your belt is going to work is if you purchase the correct belt. The best way to make sure that you purchase the belt is by writing down both the brand name and model number of the vacuum when you leave for the store. Another thing you can do is bring your old vacuum belts with you.

Installing vacuum belts is another thing that is going to vary from one vacuum to another. Take a good look at how the old belt is installed before you remove it. Taking a couple of photos with a digital camera is an excellent way to help make sure that you don't forget how the belt was installed, and will make the process of replacing the belt considerably easier and faster.

Pay attention to how your vacuum is running. Most of the time you will have a little bit of warning before the vacuum cleaners actually breaks down. If you suspect that your vacuum isn't working properly you will want to bring it to a vacuum repair store and have the problem looked at and new vacuum cleaner parts installed before it becomes more serious.
