Mowing the lawn is a necessary chore that basically all homeowners have to deal with. It is important to be certain that your lawnmower is in tip-top shape when you mow. Eventually, the lawnmower blades will become dull and need to be sharpened or replaced. This is vital for a gorgeous lawn. When the blades become dull, the grass will not appear mowed. You may have to go over it several times and still not achieve the desired result. The following suggests ways to remove your lawnmower blade with ease.
The first thing you need to do for lawnmower blade removal is to clean the deck. This is important to keep clean to prevent erosion of your lawnmower blade. Most lawnmowers have a build-up of grass and mulch after mowing. It is suggested that you clean this every time you are done mowing for best result. For easy removal of the blade, you must be certain that the belly of the deck is clean. The best way to do this is to begin by scraping it off. After this, take a power washer or a very high powered hose and remove the rest of the debris.
Now you need to secure yourself a work area. Set up a couple of sawhorses and place the mower on top of it right side up. Now, you will need to use C-clamps to secure your mower onto your sawhorses. It is very important to be certain that the mower is secure so that you do not become injured in the process. Also, the mower is placed upright on the saw horses to avoid gas or oil from draining out and damaging your mower.
The next step is removing the retention nuts. Often they will appear stuck from excessive debris building up on them. You need to lubricate the nuts that are holding your lawnmower blade on by using penetrating oil. Spray the oil onto the shaft of the lawnmower blade and the nuts, and allow it to soak in well. Then you will use a wire brush and scrub the area to remove debris from the nuts. This should make removal much easier. Allow this oil to soak while you block the lawnmower blade. To block the lawnmower blade you need to place a 2x4, at least six inches long along the inside of the lawnmower deck. Be certain that it is secured with a C-clamp as well to stop the blade from turning so that you can remove the retention nut easier.
Now after the motor is completely secured and the blade is blocked, you need to use a socket and ratchet set to remove the retention nuts off of the lawnmower blade. Use as large ratchet to provide yourself additional leverage. Once this is done, you can safely remove your lawnmower blade and replace it with the new one.
