There are many reasons people decide to tint their house windows. Tinting saves money, allows privacy, and saves furniture from fade. Other reasons tint is preferred is to reduce the glare that can affect your television shows, as well as provide a new decorative look for your windows. It is always best to have a professional tint your windows; however, if you want a cheap project, you may consider attempting this yourself.
There are many important steps to remember when attempting to apply your own window tint. First, it is vital that your home windows are spotless. Clean your inside windows with a bucket of warm water, detergent, and a sponge. You will need to wash your windows from side to side using an "S" motion. Be sure to start at the top and work you way to the bottom. When you are finished, dry the windows with a clean chamois cloth. This is a vital step in order to apply window tint successfully. Dust, dirt, or even eyelashes can lead to a failed project.
Now that you have sparkling, clean windows, it is time to gather your needed supplies. You can purchase many at home kits to make this process simpler. However, if you simply want to use products around the house, you will need to have a spray bottle filled with water and a little baby shampoo, a razor, a ruler, and of course your roll of tint. Have these tools handy before you begin your project. Remember, applying tint takes a lot of patience, and can be a very lengthy project. Do not allow yourself to get discouraged or this project can turn into a disaster.
Now you are ready to apply your tint. To begin, you need to cut the amount of tint for each window a little larger than the area. After cutting the sheet, you will need to carefully peel off the backing that is on your tint. Be ready to apply it to the window immediately after. Apply the tint, and spray the window with the baby shampoo solution. This allows your ruler to easily glide on the window and press out all of the air bubbles. Now, starting in the center of the tint, with your ruler, work your way downward and sideways to remove all of the air bubbles. Then carefully use your razor blade to cut around the edges and remove the excess tint. Finally, take your squeegee and clean the excess water solution off of the window. To finish up, wipe the window down with a lint-free chamois rag.
By following these easy steps, you can tint your windows all by yourself. Just remember that you will need to be exceptionally patient and prepared for the job. Once you are completed, you can enjoy the many benefits of tinted windows.
