1. Ceramic- Ceramic countertops are easy to clean and are heat proof. You can have a wide variety of colors, as well. However, you might have problems with cracking and gout lines in the long run. You might find yourself replacing your countertops every so often, which might be a little expensive.

2. Composite- a mixture of quartz, resin binders and pigments. It is solid and sturdy, but it is not heat proof.

3. Concrete- this is the most modern and most commonly used. However, you would need a sealant to protect it from cracking and would at the same time be heat proof. New high-tech laminated concrete called Mass1 that's silkier, more stain-resistant and versatile is the more commonly used nowadays. The good thing about concrete also is that it can be styled and fashion according to the shape and size of your choice.

4. Corian- This too can be sculpted to any shape of your choice. It is silky-smooth, durable and super hygienic as it is not porous. Like cement, it can be shaped according the size and shape of your choice. Tailor-made designs and shapes make corian kitchen countertops to be very attractive to buyers. The downside, though, is it can be a bit pricey compared to the other materials.

5. Durat- Perhaps the best thing about this is it is made out of recycled plastic so it is environment friendly. Like corian, it is heat-resistant, easy to clean and even chemical-resistant. Like corian, it is easy to clean and can even be renewed by sanding, and definitely durable. As to the colors available, there is a wide range of variety of cool, chic colors you can choose from. But one must consider the fact that Durat, like Corian, is also a lot more costly.

So basically it is really choice.

6. Glass- Glass kitchen countertops offer sleek, modern designs. It is easy to clean and heat-resistant, too. Cost-wise, it is not that expensive compared to the other materials used for countertops. However, glass is not scratch-proof and its edges might chip off.

It is always helpful to consult professionals, browse online for designs, have a look at magazines so you will have a wide range of options. Before making your final decision, it would be best if you weighed the pros and cons mentioned above. The design should not be the only determining factor in coming up with your choice. Durability, cost and of course, something that you would be happy about are other things to consider as well.
