The main difference between e-mail marketing and spam is the presence of permission. This specifies that a company cannot just suddenly e-mail someone - legitimate e-mail marketing companies must ask for permission first.

In order for a company to retain its dignity while practicing e-mail marketing, it is crucial to let their customers be informed of the difference between spamming and sending e-mails with permission.
