Do you have a favourite image that is dying to printed as a Photo Banner? With the precision of the digital printing technology available now its easy.

The trick with creating a really breathtaking photo banner is to start with a high quality photo. This is really important.

Once you start to enlarge your picture up to banner size, (any SIZE), the bigger your photo – that is the higher resolution of your image the better.

Nothing is more disappointing than enlarging an image way beyond its native size. I help a lot of people with their photo banners and it is simple to fall into this trap.

The reason is, because the photo looks great on a cell phone or even on the internet, it will look just as good when it is enlarged (sometimes many hundreds of percent) and recreated onto a vinyl banner.

Unfortunately this is not the case...

To explain this – just in case you are not familiar with this effect , I need to get a little technical.

Digital pictures are made up of thousands of tiny dots called pixels. These pixels are essentially coloured dots that make up your image in much the same way as a picture is made using mosaic tiles. This is also a bit like the process that makes up your television images.

Once we start to enlarge a picture beyond its native size, that is the size it is meant to be viewed at, it will suffer from a problem called pixelation.

Pixelation is a term used to describe how a picture's integrity is reduced as it is enlarged beyond the size it should be. It's a little like spreading too little butter on too much bread. You have probably already seen this effect happen yourself.

When images are enlarged too far they deteriorate and get a saw toothed like edge to them. This is the pixels being enlarged to the amount where they can be seen and a sure sign that your image is enlarged way too far.

So now that that's out of the way, what I am saying to you is, if you do want to print your favourite photo onto a photo banner or poster. The higher the density of the image you use to start with, the better, and the bigger you can enlarge your photo without this pixilation creeping in.

Once we have a suitable picture to work with, the rest is straightforward. Any text you want can then be added, it is even possible to cut out the background of the person in your image to really make them stand out if that's you want.

And as for size.. well, the sky is the limit, just about anything is achievable. How big is often just a case of how much.
