It is almost similar to a conventional classroom, only this time the students are located remotely and away from each other. Students can be from anywhere around the world. This method follows a time schedule so if you're not present during the lesson, then you'll miss all of it unless you are able to access a recorded or saved copy of the lessons. Instances of synchronous technology include webinars, web or video conferencing, and live streaming.

The asynchronous setting on the other hand, is much more time-flexible than its counterpart. The students can access the lessons, lectures, and course materials at their own time schedules. The students don't have to tune in to a lesson at the same time and schedule. Most students prefer this method because it enables them to learn and study at their own pace.

Now, before you take the plunge into distance learning, there are some factors that you need to take into account. First, don't commit the mistake of assuming that it's going to be an easy and smooth sail. Yes, it's simplified education but that doesn't mean it's easy. Second, make sure you know how to use the internet – email, networking, messaging, video conferencing, etc. Most of the time, you will be making use of these tools and resources. Third, be disciplined. Follow all the rules and regulations of the online classroom. You're learning on the internet so cheating is going to be as easy as breathing but don't do it.
