A bathroom is more than just a place where you can take a bath, attend to the call of nature, and brush your teeth. It is the place to start the day. It is a haven which provides for you the comforts that you seek before you go to bed. It should be more than just a cold, tiled place.
The perfect way to give your bathroom more function and beauty is to install a bathroom vanity. Vanities for bathrooms function as the cabinet, the faucets and sink, the countertop, the mirror and medicine storage, together with the light fixtures and the backsplash in the bathroom.
When you're thinking of installing a vanity in your bathroom, you have to consider three things: your budget, the functions of that particular vanity in the bathroom, and of course, the beauty of it - aesthetics.
The first step is to measure out your bathroom and sketch out the precise proportions in a graph paper. You have to write down the electrical outlets together with the water pipes because you'll need this for the lighting fixtures and the vanity faucet. Add in your toilet, tub, shower and all other fixtures.
Next you need to make a second copy of your bathroom sketch, but this time do not include the current fixtures. It should only consist of the walls and the windows. Then you draw the bathroom fixtures but this time in the positions that you would want them to be after the installation of the bathroom vanity.
Figure out the location wherein you will be installing your vanity cabinet. Measure from the wall to the next fixture if you currently have a pedestal sink installed. Doing so will give you the maximum width for the future bathroom vanity.
Figure out what type of vanity you will install based on your needs. Determine your budget by determining the type of finish materials you want, moving of pipes and wires, wall and door repairs, demolition and labor costs.
Figure out whether you want more of the counter space or if you prefer a bigger sink. If you only wish to have a single sink then put it in the center or to one side if you want to have dressing space on your countertop. If you're planning on installing two sinks in your bathroom vanity, then make sure that they are spaced evenly apart.
Now, include the new vanity and sinks n the second drawing that you made earlier. Sketch in an elevation of your new vanity together with the mirrors, light fixtures, medicine cabinets, faucets, and all other installations. Make a mark in the center line of where each sink will be installed on the counter top. Also include your electrical outlets and plumbing. If it seems that your drawing looks too crowded, it might look like that in real life as well.
When out to purchase materials, there are many great designs for vanities for bathrooms. Aim for the high quality materials that you can afford. Also, give a budget allowance for miscellaneous expenses such as hidden problems in the bathroom.
