Sleeping or sleeper - As its name suggests, this offers sleeping accommodations to overnight passengers. Trains that go long distances usually have this.

Lounge - This provides more room for passengers to stretch out, enjoy the view, get food from a buffet, or interact with other passengers. This may even have live music for entertainment.

Diner - This caters to the dining needs of passengers and is like a narrow but fully functional restaurant.

For freight trains:

Stock - As its name suggests, this transports live stock such as cattle, sheep, horses, and poultry.

Hopper - This carries commodities such as sugar, rice, fertilizer, coal, iron ore, etc.

Reefer - This is refrigerated and usually carries commodities such as frozen meat, fruits and vegetables.
Tank - This transports gaseous or liquid commodities like milk and gasoline.
Box - This carries general freight.
