Whenever it looks like your brain will get a major tantrum, the best thing to do is to take the essential precautions to be able to deal with that tantrum properly. Since when have you seen a mother without her baby bag? You probably would need one too. Thankfully, you do not have to resort to sucking on a pacifier. So that is the first step: arm yourself. Do not go out of your home empty-handed. Just like how a mum would pack a toy rattle for the babe, so should you carry the things that can distract or soothe your probable attack. One of the best things to keep you semi-distracted is to plug an earphone on your ear. Get a classical playlist and have it on while you are out. When you feel anxious, hum or sing. Hearing outside noise or activity should hopefully tell your brain that it is much more interesting rather than having to resort to a panic attack. Keep a bottle of aromatherapy in your bag. Better yet, spray some on yourself before you step out. Also, keep a pack of gum on your bag. Chew on a piece whenever you leave the house. Another great accessory? Go out with a friend. Embrace the art of walking. Not only will your mind be focused on getting to your destination, it can also marvel at the scenery, and your body is burning a few calories along the way! And of course, dealing with panic attacks is incomplete without having to do some breathing exercises. Just in case you still have not learned to control your breathing, fold a clean paper bag and stash it in your emergency bag.
Music, gum, paper bag, aromatherapy, and you can add a stress ball too if you want -these things are easy to carry around and would certainly be a good aid to you. Once you pack these things though, do not obsess over them. Instead, you should think that you should be less troubled, because you are more than prepared. The fact that you are aware and taking action is a great panic attacks treatment! You are well on your way to recovery if you just believe it!
