Are you frustrated with your Microsoft Dynamics NAV ERP system? Are there bugs you need to fix or new customizations you would like? Do you feel like you're maximizing the full potential of the software, or feel like you're outgrowing it? Wish you could fine tune its performance? If so, you're not alone.
Although Microsoft Dynamics NAV is a cost-effective and complete ERP software solution that can be tailored precisely to your company's unique requirements, it is not easy to manage. In fact, many organizations have difficulty using the Dynamics NAV system after it's been implemented.
Microsoft Dynamics NAV (formerly Navision) should enable your organization to work more efficiently. If it's not, and you are frustrated with its performance, then there's a problem...
And if you are running on a previous version, now is the right time to consider upgrading to Microsoft Dynamics Nav 2009. Here's why...
New Features of Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009
RoleTailored Client -Perhaps the best reason to upgrade to MicroSoft Dynamics NAV 2009 is the increased functionality. With the introduction of the Role-Tailored Client (RTC), MicroSoft Dynamics NAV developers can finally integrate with the ERP data via web services. Codeunits and Pages (a new object type for MicroSoft Dynamics NAV 2009) can both be exposed as web services. The RTC allows users to modify their user interface to meet the specific requirements of their day-to-day responsibilities. Users may export reports directly to Excel spreadsheet, or Adobe PDF formats, and Outlook email is available within the RTC.
New Database Features - In addition to supporting both the Classic Client and the RTC, MicroSoft Dynamics NAV 2009 supports the two database options typically supported in Navision (SQL Server and C/SIDE). However, the C/SIDE database has a limited lifetime, and future versions of MicroSoft Dynamics NAV will only support the SQL Server database option. Microsoft has also announced plans to eliminate Forms in next version of MicroSoft Dynamics NAV (currently known only as "7"), replacing them with the Pages introduced in MicroSoft Dynamics NAV 2009. Further, MicroSoft Dynamics NAV version "8" is scheduled to be released in 2013 – 2014, and the Classic Client will no longer by supported functionality in that and later versions.
While these dates and data features are not written in stone, it is clear that Microsoft has significant changes in store for the upcoming releases of MicroSoft Dynamics NAV. A gradual upgrade process should be palatable to most users, and provides a compelling argument to begin the upgrade process now with MicroSoft Dynamics NAV 2009 in order to stay with the gradual introduction of these changes.
