Egyptian Prime Minister Ahmed Shafiq Sunday said the caretaker government's priority is to restore security, while confirming Hosni Mubarak is still in Egypt's Red Sea resort town of Sharm el-Sheikh.
"Prime Minister Ahmed Shafiq announced that former president Hosni Mubarak is in Sharm el-Sheikh up to now," reported the state news agency MENA.
Meanwhile, Shafiq said at a press conference that "our main concern now in the cabinet is security, to bring security back to the Egyptian citizens."
The caretaker cabinet on Sunday held its first meeting since Mubarak stepped down on Friday, which focused on efforts to resume normal life, and to restore security and stability in Egypt as the 30-year rule of Hosni Mubarak ended.
The cabinet also discussed ways to supply the markets with foodstuffs and basic commodities and help state institutions get back to work.
Besides, Shafiq said in the press conference that Egypt's economic situation was stable.
"Our internal economic situation is solid and cohesive," he said, adding "we have enough reserves in the coming period and our situation is comforting, very comforting."
The prime minister vowed to lower prices of consumer goods and fight against corruption.
The Supreme Council of Egypt's armed forces issued a statement on Saturday stating that the current government will temporarily run the country's affairs until a new government is formed. It also promised a peaceful transition from military regime to a civilian elected government.
