Each year, there are always new models and new innovations in the realm of PC hardware. Before, most video cards that you would acquire would be connected to the PCI port. As the years progressed, new video cards are connected to the Accelerated Graphics Port. Today, most of the video cards that you would acquire would be in the PCIE or the Peripheral Component Interconnect Express Port. The PCIE port is quite larger than the AGP port and it is actually much more convenient since your video card would run faster. If you would notice the PCIE port to its conventional model, you would realize the sizes of the pins are actually different from its original model. You need to keep in mind that when you want to add a new video card, you should remember on what port to insert on as well as the type of motherboard that you have.
For older models of motherboards such as the Pentium 4 or the Pentium 3, the main port which is used to connect the video card to the motherboard would usually be the Accelerated Graphics Port. For newer motherboards, the main port which would be used would most likely be the PCIE slot. Remember that when you are ordering or planning to add a new video card, you would need to remember the number of needles or the size of the port. It is better to bring your card old model to a hardware shop so that you can compare the sizes of the devices. Never acquire secondhand video cards since some of them do not have any warranty. If you would acquire such cards, you might be spending your money for a useless piece of hardware. You should also check the condition of the fan which is connected on the video card since you might be buying a card which has a busted fan. You would only be able to see the fan in action by simply plugging it on a board. However, in some hardware shops, you would be able to return your card if it would be busted or broken.
Aside from the motherboard model and the type of video card that you would be acquiring, you should also remember that some video cards have a certain speed. If your processor is an old model, then you should only acquire a video card which has the same specifications. Never add a new video card which is not compatible with your computer. There are some video cards that would usually cause the blue screen or the fatal error screen especially when they are not compatible with the motherboard. Sometimes, the blue screen would also show up if the driver of the video card is not configured properly. If there would be errors in the future, you can always turn off the hardware acceleration option the properties panel so that the errors would be reduced. You should also reinstall the driver so that the blue screen would be stopped .
