Here are some of the composition rules and techniques that you should know about:

Rule of Thirds

This is the most popular among all the rules of composition. Most photography students learn of these photography techniques at the beginning of their lessons. This is an effective way of taking photos of small or substantial subjects within a landscape.

The rule may seem simple, but it gets tricky as you go along. The idea is to choose your subjects and position them along the intersecting point in an imaginary grid. The grid is supposedly divided into 3 intersecting points horizontally and another 3 intersecting points vertically. So just imagine that your camera has these lines intersecting together, and as you take a photo of the landscape, position your lens in such a way that will capture these focal points within the intersecting points of your grid.

Choosing Geometric Shapes

Instead of using the grid with intersecting points, you can also choose geometric shape to determine the focal points of your photograph. The simplest way to do this is to imagine a triangle drawn across the image that you want to take a photo of. Choose three objects that are positioned in the three points of a triangle and this will be the main focal points of your photograph. This is one of the best photography techniques that can certainly help you to get a well-balanced shot.

Framing

This is done by choosing an object or several objects as your subject and positioning your lens in such a way that will capture a sturdy figure on the side like a tree or a branch. This will place the image in between to complete the framing effect.

Diagonal Lines

You can also capture images that may form diagonal lines. It could be a row of trees, a picket fence or a group of people forming a straight line. You can choose an angle that will capture its diagonal shape so you can form an interesting composition.
