Anyone can buy an affordable pair of earbuds from the local Wal-Mart. The trick is picking from the dozen or so options that are not going to break the minute you walk out the door. So what can you do to make sure you are actually getting a good pair of earbuds for a reasonable price? Below are several tips of what to look for in order to not end up with a pair that would be as good as sticking rocks in your ears.

What To Look For In Cheap Earbuds

Tip #1: Everyone likes a good deal but there is a difference between a good deal and just a cheap product. So to be fair you can pretty much throw anything that is under the $10 amount out the door. If you don't you are going to regret it.

Tip #2: A quality build is important to any earbud because you want it to last through your busy lifestyle. This means everything from being stuffed in your pocket and being left in the car on a hot day etc etc. Even though you are not looking to spend a ton of money you don't have to settle for a cheap plastic earbuds. You can find earbuds starting at around $20 that have a full aluminum enclosure instead of the cheap plastic.

Tip #3: Check the strain relief to make sure it is actually going to protect the cord from being yanked out of the earpiece. To do this, simply look at the earbud cable where it enters the earpiece. If the cable goes straight into the earpiece with no thicker rubber that is about a quarter inch long covering the cord then you want to avoid that particular set. You want a good strain relief to ensure you don't accidently rip out your wires from your earpiece.

Tip #4: The worst possible thing that can happen with any earbud is that they don't fit. A lot of times with a cheaper earbuds you might not get as many tips to fit your ears so it is important to take the extra minute to check what tips come with each of the earbuds you are looking at.

Tip #5: Anyone can say that looks don't matter. The problem when they do that is that they are just lying to you. Once you have gone through the first 4 tips then find the best looking pair as well. No one wants to buy an ugly pair of earbuds I don't care who you are.
