The Urgency of Love and Marriage

Typically, single women in their thirties often experience panic attacks when they realize that suddenly everyone around them are either getting engaged or married while they on the other hand are still waiting for their future boyfriends to find them. All of a sudden, love and marriage seem to be the most crucial goal that has to be achieved no matter what. The other option would be ending up as a lonesome old lady with a dozen cats, which hardly seems appealing at all.

Why are some women so impatient to find someone to settle down with? And this is applicable not only to those women thirty and beyond. The same is true even for the younger people. What about finding "Mr. Right" do women find so fulfilling that they would sacrifice whatever they own just to know for sure that there's someone out there waiting for them?

For most conventional societies, men who grow old alone are considered eligible bachelors. Women, on the other hand, are considered pathetic spinsters. This double standard has caused women to rearrange their priorities in favor of finding the one for them before it's too late. While it's also true that there is a new breed of modern women who would rather die than give up their careers just to be with someone, most of these women are quietly keeping their eyes open for any possibility that would present them with a man who is willing to take them out for coffee - and maybe some after-work dinner and drinks.

Some women, on the other hand, think that finding their true love and marriage afterwards will give them more stability in the future. After all, settling down to have a family is supposedly as stable as any relationship can get. Aside from having a home, they will also have people who will be there for them all the time. The family gives them a sense of security. They no longer have to be alone during weekends, holidays, birthdays, or even corporate family events. This also proves that nobody likes being on their own for too long.

Another reason why women easily dive into marriage is the possibility of getting a better financial status. When a materialistic woman of any age meets a prosperous man who is willing to shower her with expensive gifts, she will most probably give in when he presents her with a marriage proposal - complete with a large solitaire diamond set in a gold band - most especially when the woman is not-so-young anymore. This is a result of the way people were trained with the mantra "survival of the fittest", and in most cases, of the wealthiest.

However, what women of all ages must understand is that the most legitimate reason to tie the knot with anyone is simply the fact that they want to give themselves whole in love and in service to each other, for the rest of their lives. The desire to settle down with just anyone must always be conquered with the desire to settle down with someone they are actually in love with and committed to. A family built out of the wrong reasons will eventually fall apart.

In the end, it should not matter so much what age anyone settles down - it's really a question of whether they are ready for the full dedication that love and marriage demand. This is not something that is easily reversible when things go wrong, so it is extremely important that they take into consideration the correct reasons before crossing the fence. Otherwise, their need to break free will come almost as immediately as their previous desire to jump right in.
