This is not actually just a simple answer. The reason being is that an LED TV is actually a LCD TV. Wait, how can that be? Both the LCD and LED TVs use Liquid Crystal Display technology the difference is just how they get their light source. With a traditional LCD TV the screen is light source comes from fluorescent tubes and with an LED the light source is LEDs or (Light Emitting Diodes). So even though both TVs are actually LCD TVs because of the TVs light source is how you get a LED TV.
O.K. So Which One Is Best
Both a LCD TV and a LED TV are fantastic high definition TVs but there are a few advantages of that come with any new technology. A traditional LCD using a fluorescent tube has to stay on all the time which means that even when there is something on your screen that is supposed to be black a little bit of light will still bleed through which means your darks are just not quite as dark as they could be. This causes the TV to not be as sharp as it could be. With a LED TV that uses a rear backlighting LED the lighting can be dimmed in a group which allows you to get darker colors and cleaner lines.
So How Much Is It Going To Cost You?
The latest technology always comes with a higher cost and LED TVs are no different. The same series TV from Samsung cost over 50% more in the LED version. So is the deeper contrast worth the extra money? That really comes down to your personal choice. If you decide to go with the LCD and save some money you will still have a great TV and you would have saved a bunch of money doing it.
What To Look For In a LED
Features – Make sure to look for a LED TV with local dimming in order to be able to get the greater contract in dark portions of the movie.
Display – You want to look for 3 things when comparing displays, refresh rate, response time, and contrast ratio. Look for at least 240Hz refresh rate, 3ms or faster response time, and a 10,000,000:1 contrast ratio.
Connections – When it comes to this go with the old rule of thumb. More is better!
Keywords: LED TV, LCD TV, Home Theater, Plasma TV
