Gambling is a way of game or competition that requires money, properties or valuable materials referred to as stakes which the gamers or players wager on, depending on their choice of play or the condition. It is also a competition for the players to earn or gain more money or valuable materials as the game is continuously played. Other forms of gambling games are conducted with material which have value or to be a consequence that must be paid by the losing party. It is also important that every gambler must pay the stakes or the amount that has been discussed otherwise they will be forced to pay it with things that have the same value as the money that they agreed upon.

Religious authorities have mixed viewpoint about gambling. They generally disapprove of gambling however Catholic and Jewish religions have tradition days where gambling is legal. Due to the influence of the church and other religious organizations, gambling has limitations but they conducted gambling in the form of lotteries or raffle draws as a source of funds in order to produce donations and help charities and other people in need. In the social aspect, society views gambling as a harmful or negative behavior because it usually leads to ruining people's life like losing properties and money, causes conflicts in the family, and even committing of crimes, when done compulsively or when a person is addicted to it.

Psychiatry says that gambling is a form of psychological behavior. It is said that it is a form of recreation. Others find it as a means of livelihood because they gain money and it becomes their source of income. To other people it is an addiction or a compulsive behavior because it affects their lives and they lack control to stop from playing. It becomes a form of frustration for gamblers because they pursue to win the game. To gamblers playing is not just all about winning but the thrill of getting lucky. Gambling is also a way of gaining status as a player. Most of the time though that they already won, they still keep on playing because they just can't have enough of the game.

However, to some people gambling is a kind of way of living or earning money. It helps many people especially poor ones by betting on the lottery or charity sweepstakes. Here are some reasons why people gamble:

- The main and most obvious reason is lack of money. Some people hope that they will find their luck or chance of winning.

- Other people find gambling as a way of having fun and enjoyment. They find it amusing by playing or betting.
- Others view it as a way of making more money. It becomes an investment.
- It is also a way for helping charity and other people in need.
- To some people it becomes a habit or a kind of addiction.

Gambling is not about winning, it is always played with luck, you can bluff but you can't cheat.
