There are cultures all over the world that like to make symbolic references associated with things such as deaths, births, times, dates, the stars and other factors pertaining to special events. The Chinese birth calendar is one of these culturally oriented objects. This calendar is used to determine the gender that a child will be at birth. There was once a great need in China to control whether they had a boy or a girl. It was the custom that boys were favored over girls because they were highly valued. Baby girls would be killed in order for parents to try for a boy.

A law had been passed that required couples to only have one child because of the increased population and overcrowding. All parents wished for a boy because daughters were thought to be valued much less and boys promised a lucrative, bright future. Many parents experienced the horror of having their daughters taken from them and murdered, or they would volunteer for this practice so that they could try again for a boy.

It was because of this practice that many parents began a search for a way to find out what they would have, if there was a way to predict it so they could have a boy without having to go through the pain and agony of having a girl instead. The first step to this method is determining the age of the mother. This would be her age nine months prior to her birth. She would count back from the month of her birth nine months and this would be her conception month.

The second step is crossing that month with the month of conception of the baby being born. This will give an accurate determination of gender at a 97% percentage rate. When people wish to determine it ahead of time, they can choose a month for conception, count nine months ahead, cross reference that month with the age of the mother and determine what gender would be born.

It is not a difficult process and can be used on any standard calendar because the whole concept is based on the Chinese lunar calendar, which has the same months as any calendar.

People sometimes do not want to know whether their baby will be a boy or a girl. More often than not, however, they would like to know. It helps in preparation for the babys arrival to know what kind of clothes are going to be needed, if any tiny head bands will be needed to signify a girl, or little sailor caps to signify a boy.

Many parents choose to use the Chinese birth calendar as a means of determining their childs gender ahead of time. Many generations have passed down this knowledge to future generations worldwide.
