Tennis coaching drills are one of the most important aspects of training for tennis. Constantly practicing is not nearly enough, especially if one is not practicing the correct movements. This is what drills aim for: to correct and improve the weaknesses of every player. The following are some of the most common drills used by coaches when polishing their students' game.
Sprint Stops
This particular drill works on a person's ability to shift directions in a matter of seconds. To perform the exercise, one has to set three stop spots about ten yards apart from each other. These three should be arranged in such a way that that it would form an L-shape on the field. Now to start the exercise , the student must start sidestepping from one side to another before changing directions and sprinting forward. This should be done as fast as possible, preferably three times before swtiching sides.
Sprint Stops
Unlike the first one, this drill aims to help with ones ability to halt and spring in to movement within a matter of seconds. Set up two markers ten yards from each other and start sprinting back and forth before suddenly stopping at one of the markers and then starting again. This exercise should be repeated at least three times.
Wrist Drills
Aside from honing the reaction time of the player, other tennis coaching drills focus on developing the strength of the player when hitting the ball. Usually, the power is focused on the wrist, making it necessary to exercise and improve that particular part of the body. To do this, grab a tennis ball and grip it as tightly as possible before unclenching. This can be done as often as one wants until they feel the exercise taking effect on their game.
Targets
Some utilize this drill to improve a player's control over the ball. Usually, a target will be set up on the court and the player would be told to hit the same spot as often as possible. This can be very tiring but also very effective when it comes to real-life games.
Defence and Attack
A practical drill requires two players; this exercise polishes the defense and attack strategies by the player. The process is pretty simple, two players will be facing each other agains the court wherein one would be issuing mostly defensive hits while the other goes on the offensive . Usually, the drill would start with the player taking one spot and then ending it by switching with the other player for the role of attacker or defender.
One on One
This method is one of the most common tennis coaching drills that is very tiring but also very effective since it polishes a number of important points in tennis -- mainly stamina, speed and control. Basically, the student would try to hit everything cross court while a partner would utilize one cross court and another down the line, making the player run as much as possible .
Of course, there are other tennis coaching drills that are designed to be more specific in their results. Sometimes, coaches create some of their own or modify a drill to match the outcome they want to achieve. By performing these drills, a tennis player can polish up their game and all in all improve every aspect of how they play
