Born March 30th, 1853, Vincent Van Gogh created some nine hundred paintings and 1,100 drawings, most of which had been produced within the last 10 years of his life. Struggling mental illness, Van Gogh shot him self, dying two days following on July 29, 1890. His paintings lives on, as does his tale. Five things to note in regards to this fantastic character are observed below.
1. It was throughout a period where he was preaching to excavation workers to obtain no pay that Van Gogh began to produce charcoal sketches. In 1880, following the recommendations of his younger brother Theo, he took up painting in earnest. At this time there was a brief period of time throughout this time where Van Gogh took lessons from Anton Mauve at The Hague.
2. Van Gogh attempted study with the art school of Antwerp, Belgium. He was basically dismissed soon after only a few brief months. It was in the course of this time having said that, that he encountered a certain understanding for Japanese art work, and he really started out a collection in earnest, appreciating the glowing colors and use of space.
3. Van Gogh was only recognized to have sold only one painting for the duration of his lifetime. Painted in 1888, ‚"The Red Vineyard" is now on exhibit in the Pushkin Museum in Moscow Russia.
4. Vincent Van Gogh and his brother Theo were the very best of friends, whose relationship is well documented in a collection of letters that had been publicized around 1914.
5. To this time, the legend of Van Gogh lives on. March 30, 1987 at a well renowned New York public auction house, his painting ‚"Irises", sold for a record setting $53.9 million dollars. In 1990 he broke the records for a second time when his ‚"Portrait of Doctor Gachet", sold through Christie's for a whopping $82.5 million dollars.
Little known or appreciated during his life-time, Vincent Van Gogh's influence on 20th century art could be significant. Since he had no children of his own, Van Gogh considered his works his children. Without a doubt, he would be proud of how they've carried on his name.
