To help you keep the wires in their specified place, staple cans are a great choice.
You have to teach and train your grapevines so they can grow properly on the trellis. This may take some time, and even a few years, and you can secure the main shoot of the vines onto the trellis vertically. You can make use of strings for this. Using wire may cause minor damage to your trellis, and string won't. Your vines may take quite a bit of time to grow, and they also tend to grow a bit slower. Getting past the second dormant stage can be critical, however, once you are past it, remember to take the two main shoots and put them vertically on the trellis. This is going to be the base where you will get the fruit.
