When you are cooking, you want to have a well lit area. You decided to install your kitchen ceiling lights by yourself to get a brighter kitchen area. Installing kitchen ceiling lights is not as difficult as it may seem. Below are nine simple steps to guide you on how to install kitchen ceiling lights.
Open and check the package you bought and its contents. Check if you have a complete package. There might be missing or sub-standard items inside the box. The package must have the globe and the light fixture.
Safety first. Turn the power off in the fuse panel to the circuit that you will be working on or in your main breaker. Using a tester, try if the power is really turned off already in the ceiling box. You don t want to experience accidents while working on it.
You now ready the electrical connection. Use a sharp knife to cut six inches of the outer coating off of the NM wire. Just remove the inner wrapping made of paper. From the wires, take off about 3/4 of the conductor insulation.
Support the main body of the light fixture up tightly in the ceiling by installing the mounting bracket. Do it by fastening it to the box using the provided 8-32 screws. You fix up the green ground screw and put the longer 8-32 screws into the bracket.
You are now ready to make electrical connections by attaching the ground wire from the fixture to the bracket ground screw and the ground wire from the feeder wire. Using a wire nut, connect the white wires together; next to connect are the black wires. You have to insert the remaining wire back into the box close to the bracket.
You now install the fixture by pressing it upward in the direction of the box and align the screw holes. Once aligned, you will notice that there is a bigger hole furnished in the slot for the screws. Secure the fixture by securing the screws in the hole slots. Using a screwdriver, tighten the screws but make sure you do not over tighten them. Inspect also if there are wires left hanging out of the fixture base.
Before you put the light bulbs, check first the label of the fixture sockets for the maximum wattage of the bulbs. You should not exceed the stated rating for safety purposes. It might create accidents like fire from overheating or fixture failure.
Fix in the fixture the supplied globe. There are two options on how to do it. First, use the furnished clips inside the package that will keep the fixture from the inside. Second is through using screws on the outside of the fixture. If you chose this option, make sure that you secure the screws evenly and you should not overdo it because the glass globe may crack.
Now you are ready to test your project. Turn the power on from the breaker or circuit. If it lights, pat your back for you have successfully installed your kitchen ceiling lights. You have saved a lot for your labor cost and at the same time, you have learned something new.
