Keeping an aquarium at home is like having a piece of miniature-sized ecosystem right in your living room. Because of its vibrant quality and calming effects, a lot of people have become interested in aquariums. As the main attraction of your aquarium, it is best to focus on which fish species to put inside the reef aquarium. In comparison, choosing to put a single fish species in tank is much less complicated than putting in two or more variety of fish types in one tank. Nonetheless, the appeal of a multi species reef aquarium is hard to resist because the explosion of colors that the different fish combination brings is in itself considered as a reward for hobbyist. Some would even consider it as a fun challenge to figure out which mixture of fish variety would work best for their aquarium. Prior to deciding which type of fish to put in based on the fish outward appearance, it is also best to learn basic facts about a certain fish species especially with regards to its natural habitat and how it interacts with other marine life like other fishes, water plants and corals. Always remember that just like other creatures in the wild life, fishes are guided by natural survival instincts; therefore, not every fish type can live harmoniously with others. Here are three common aquarium fish reef popular amongst hobbyist.
Angel fish or Pterophyllum scalare is considered one of the most beautiful tropical fresh water aquarium fish. It has a flat and rounded body with dorsal and ventral fins almost as long as its body. They come in different colors and varieties. Fresh water variants include golden angelfish, zebra angel fish and black angelfish. Although the may look fragile at the early stages of their life, they usually grow into strong animals which can live up to 10 years if given proper care. Breeding angel fish is also quite easy.
Clown fish or anemonefish is an amusing creature to keep inside your aquarium. It is called anemonefish because it of its unusual symbiotic relationship with sea anemones. It is immune to the potent poison of sea anemones. It is also interesting to note that clown fish are all born males. They would eventually on change gender to take the place of a female clown fish that has died. Possibly, aside from its beautiful vibrant orange and black stripes, clownfish has grown to become very popular due to the movie Finding Nemo
Another saltwater species that strives well in an aquarium are Gobies. They are usually small in size. Gobies are ideal community fishes because of their size and they can live harmoniously well with other fishes. However, putting them together with cichlids like angel fish is not a good idea because they are not very competitive especially during feeding.
There are several other fish varieties to choose from. Again, understanding how each species lives remain to be the key factor in deciding which fish to care for in your own aquarium.
