2010 will probably remembered as the year when a lot of established TV shows, some spanning two decades while others were short-lived but cult favorites by audiences, finally called it quits. Though gone, these shows will always be remembered and enjoyed by audiences to come thanks to the occasional reruns and the advent of DVDs. Here are some TV shows on DVD that are worth checking out should you feel the urge to marathon something on the tube.
Warning: these TV shows on DVD could get you addicted. In a good way, that is.
"Law and Order"
"Law and Order" is the longest running show on the list. The long-running crime drama helmed by Dick Wolf has spanned 20 seasons and even spawned several spin-offs such as "Law and Order: Special Victims Unit", "Law and Order: Criminal Intent", "Law and Order: Trial by Jury", and "Law and Order: Los Angeles". Despite having undergone several casting changes over its 20-year run, there are a couple of characters regularly seen such as District Attorney Jack McCoy (Sam Waterston) and Lieutenant Anita Van Buren (S. Epatha Merkerson) both whom have remained with the show since their inclusion.
"Scrubs"
Created by Bill Lawrence, this 2001 comedy-drama tackles the lives of the employees working for the fictional Sacred Heart Hospital. Each episode is narrated by main character J.D. Dorian (Zach Braff), who initially started out as a lowly medical intern in Sacred Heart until he eventually became one of its attending physicians, and included J.D.'s often surreal fantasies during the first eight seasons of the show. During the ninth and final season, the main character role was eventually passed on another incoming intern, Lucy Bennett (Kerry Bishe).
"24"
A TV show wherein each of the season's 24 episodes covers the 24 hours of the main character's life. Sounds promising, right? To add to the mix, said main character is working for the government as an agent for the US Counter Terrorist Unit. Here promising suddenly turns exciting. Meet Agent Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) and for the last eight years, he has saved the United States from terrorist plots, presidential assassination attempts, cyber attacks, and all sorts of conspiracies all within 24 hours. And you thought you were having a bad day.
"Lost"
"Lost" finally ended its tumultuous six-year-run with a bang; the series finale is deemed as one of the most anticipated conclusions to an intriguing storyline that has piqued viewers from all over. "Lost" follows the lives of the individuals who survived a plane crash in a mysterious South Pacific tropical island. Forced to work together in order to survive, they roam the island's surroundings and realize that they are not alone with mysterious entities and hostile inhabitants threatening their bid for survival.
"Heroes"
When "Heroes" debuted in 2006, the sci-fi series was lauded by critics and viewers alike for its intriguing premise of ordinary people discovering their superhuman abilities, its consequences on their lives, and the thread that binds all their lives together. Throughout its brief four-year run, the show featured a gamut of characters and introduced multiple storylines which eventually proved detrimental for the series as audiences slowly started to lose interest in the show.
