The UCSF Neuro & Musculoskeletal Imaging activity provides an update on various imaging fundamentals in which protocols are presented, as well as imaging pitfalls. An array of imaging methods are included with an emphasis on magnetic resonance imaging and PET/CT applications to head and neck oncology. Up-to-date imaging protocols are presented, as well as imaging pitfalls. Case-based lectures will reinforce the points covered in didactic sessions. This program starts with an update on brain tumor imaging, then delves into imaging of CNS infections and in patients with seizure disorder. Cases are presented to illustrate these topics. Next, traumatic brain injuries and brain herniation syndromes are explored, including those injuries suffered as a result of modern combat. What you have to know about PET and CT scans of the head and neck are covered, as well as imaging non traumatic intracranial hemorrhage. On the musculoskeletal side, MRI is featured for peripheral nerve entrapment and tumors as well as a comprehensive overview of all significant conditions of bones and joints, including post operative cases, soft tissue tumors and arthrography.
UCSF Imaging Advances: Abdominal, Thoracic, Skeletal program features a review of CT, MRI, Ultrasound, and Nuclear Medicine in clinical imaging applications in evaluation of diseases of the breast, chest, joints, abdomen, and pelvis. Traditionally established practices, as well as newer and developing imaging methods, are covered. CT (Computed Tomography) imaging methods includes HRCT (high-resolution), MDCT (multi-detector), and CTA (angiography) with emphasis on imaging applications of the heart, coronary and pulmonary arteries, chest, liver, and pancreas. Emphasis is also given to the use of multiplanar reformations (MPRs) in the heart, pancreas, and peripheral vessels. For MRI, state-of-the-art techniques in evaluation with the breast, heart, and abdomino-pelvic structures are discussed, in addition to evaluating potential pitfalls. Diffuse liver disease, virtual colonoscopy and solid and cystic pancreatic masses are explored in detail, as well as CT urography. The Ultrasound component examines the applications to OB/Gyn and fetal imaging, as well as the newer, in-depth applications for musculoskeletal imaging, including the use of ultrasound for therapeutic musculoskeletal intervention. Artifacts, pitfalls and normal variants are presented with ideas on avoiding malpractice risks. This component finishes up with evaluation of the placenta, umbilical cord and fetal skeletal system. The use of PET/CT for oncologic imaging and corresponding pitfalls are covered. Virtual Colonoscopy protocols and interpretation guidelines are reviewed. Practical applications of all these techniques are stressed and radiological information updated for state-of-the-art imaging practice.
