- Using rubs or marinating the meat adds flavor to the meat and moistens it. Use acid-based marinades such as citrus juice, vinegar, wine, or yogurt to add flavor to the meat without losing its distinct meaty taste.

During cooking barbecue tips:
- Always watch your barbecue carefully. Using thermometers to check the temperature and keeping an alarm or timer will help you cook the meat just right.
- Thin slices of meat are always cooked quickly at a high temperature to avoid it from getting burnt and getting too tough while big chunks of meat are cooked slowly for a long period of time in able to cook it inside without burning it outside.
- To avoid smoke flavoring the meat too much, constantly baste the meat to keep smoke from penetrating it. Smoke can't penetrate water and maintaining the meat moist helps ward of too much smoky flavor.
- Avoid using sugar-based sauces while cooking. Use sugar-based sauces when the meat is nearly cooked. Sugar burns easily and turns bitter when burnt.
- To know if the ribs you are cooking are done, try to pinch the meat from the bones. If it comes off easily, the ribs are done cooking but if not, it may need a bit more time to cook.
- Chicken and fish should be cooked at medium temperature while whole chickens or thick cuts of meat cooked at a lower temperature to allow it to be cooked inside completely.
- Serve newly grilled barbecue or meat within the hour in order to enjoy its full taste and flavor.

These are just a few barbecue tips you can observe while enjoying your afternoon get-together or weekend barbecue party. Remember that for a backyard barbecue or grilling to be successful, you need to prepare the right amount of meat for the right amount of guests. You also need to anticipate the weather. A rainy day is no way to hold a barbecue party outside your house. A clear, cool afternoon is the perfect time to hold a barbecue party. Afterwards, always remember to clean all your equipment and put all leftovers away.
