The human eyes are created in such a way that we can determine the depth and perspective of anything that lay before us, like seemingly endless tunnels, or mountain ranges you can see in the horizon. In order to give this sense of depth in your photographs you would need to do a little tweaking with your camera settings. With the right choice of lenses, a half-decent viewpoint, and a couple of photography tips, you can turn what would have been a flat photo into one that has depth.
To exaggerate the distance of a tunnel or a long straight highway, you need to put emphasis on the converging verticals, or simply put the appearance of a scene disappearing into a point in the distance. Use a wide angle lens to exaggerate the width at the nearest point in the scene and make it look narrower in the rear . Position yourself in the center so the converging lines will look a lot longer and give your camera a slight tilt upwards to really maximize the sense of distance in the scene.
"Leading lines" is a term used by photographers that refers to the elements in the photograph that seem to lead the viewer's eyes to the central subject. There are a lot of man-made lines you can make use of; buildings, power lines, vehicles, and others. Think about how these lines affect the scene you're taking and where do they lead the eyes to. Are these lines the main feature? Do they lead the viewer into the center of the scene or do they cause distraction and lead the attention away from the main subject of the scene. These are just some of the things you need to consider in order to make the lines work for you.
There are other lines that you can use to improve the qualities of your photographs. One of the most obvious is the horizon line. When you take a picture of a scene that includes getting the horizon in the shot, be sure that you don't skew the horizon line. This is the biggest mistake and distraction that the amateur photographer can make.
There are also certain lines that give different qualities. For example, straight diagonal lines can impart the impression of speed; a race car's velocity can be exaggerated by capturing it using a diagonal or slight tilt. Curved lines have a calming quality to it, so when you take pictures of models you must make full use of the curves in the human body in order to create a natural flow in the image. Angled lines give off a sense of discord, especially when you're taking pictures of abstract images you need to accentuate its angles and edges.
The primary things that you should consider when taking photographs are the lighting and shadows. If you can place your subject in a position where you can get as many shades as you can, it will result in a much better picture.
Using these professional photography tips, even the absolute beginner can learn how to take amazing looking photographs.
